A new academic organization, the International Society for Moral Psychology (ISMP), has been established to create a central hub for scholars exploring the psychological foundations of morality. The society pledges to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and bridge diverse traditions, methodologies, and cultural perspectives within the field.
The ISMP will focus on two primary initiatives: hosting an annual international conference and running a dedicated mentoring program. This program is designed to support graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and early-career scholars worldwide who are interested in moral psychology. The society's inaugural conference is scheduled for September at Cornell University.
Leadership for the new society includes inaugural president Valerie Tiberius of the University of Minnesota and vice-president Laura Niemi of Cornell University. Niemi also serves as a co-project director alongside John Doris, also of Cornell.
Thanks to external grant funding, membership in the ISMP is currently being offered free of charge for a limited period. The society extends an open invitation to scholars, students, and colleagues globally to join its ranks and participate in building this new scholarly community dedicated to the scientific understanding of moral thought and behavior.
