Catawba College psychology students, faculty share research, earn recognition at recent conference

SALISBURY -- Seventeen psychology students from Catawba College, along with several faculty members and Kira Harwood, recently made the trip to New Orleans for the Southeastern Psychological Association Conference. The group presented a range of original research projects and came home with notable recognition for their work.

The conference, a major gathering for psychologists and students across the Southeast, provided a platform for Catawba's team to share studies on topics including memory, social behavior, and mental health interventions. Faculty members guided the students through the research process, from designing experiments to analyzing data and delivering professional presentations.

Several students earned awards for their posters and talks, highlighting the quality of the department's undergraduate research program. The experience also allowed attendees to network with professionals from other universities and learn about the latest trends in psychological science.

For many of the students, this was their first opportunity to present at a large academic conference. The trip was supported by the college's emphasis on hands-on learning and professional development. The department plans to continue its strong presence at future conferences, building on the momentum from this year's success.
